Unified communications is the integration of multiple communication tools into a consolidated package for better management and control. It’s not necessarily a single product, but a set of products that provides a consistent unified user interface and user experience across multiple devices and media types.

onTop unified communications as a service is powered by Microsoft Lync – the leading provider of UC services (positioned as a leader in the 2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant).

What is unified communications

  • Instant messaging
  • Toll bypass on Lync-to-Lync calls, anywhere in the world
  • Federate with any other company in the world running Lync
  • Audio conferencing bridge
  • Video conferencing – 1-to-1 and group
  • Web meetings – desktop sharing, collaboration, etc.
  • Auto attendant services
  • Hunt group services – round robin or workflow based
  • Direct dial phone services – anywhere you have internet
  • Mobile access

Depending on your business and the level of unified communications as a service you subscribe to, it could well replace your in-house phone system.

Why Unified Communications as a Service with onTop

  • Flexibility and agility
“The primary driver for those moving to the cloud is the flexibility and agility that cloud-based services deliver when compared with on-premises alternatives. Cloud providers — especially those delivering SaaS apps for UC — can quickly roll out new capabilities. [In contrast,] upgrading on-premises servers may require a longer window of time to conduct testing, upgrade hardware and ensure operational processes are modified to support newly provisioned features.” (Nemertes Research)

  • Improved communication
By providing concurrent access to multiple options, you can improve communication among your employees, and between your business, vendors, and customers. In unified communications, sharing video amongst coworkers is as easy as conversing through phones.

  • Cost effectiveness
By unifying communications, it’s possible to eliminate redundancy in hardware and processes, thereby saving costs. This benefit is even more pronounced with the use of cloud-based services. When the responsibility for your unified communications is outsourced to a service provider, then you are saved the hassle of maintenance and the cost of labor. Another attractive feature of UCaaS is the pay-per-use model. “IT leaders often like the flexibility that comes with cloud pricing models, the ability to buy services à la carte, and to scale up or down as necessary. In the Nemertes survey, 25% of cloud adopters cited the ability to use UC cloud services to drive down costs as their primary buying factor.”(Nemertes Research)

  • Expanded compatibility
Through unified communications, it’s possible to receive a message via one medium and respond through another, thereby making all approved devices compatible with one another. This leads to faster response times and improved productivity.

  • Security
onTop’s use of encryption protocols that exceed U.S. Department of Defense standards provides a level of security that would be very hard (and very expensive) to match on-premises.

Q&A with the onTop Team

A: No – that’s the point! Our Hosted Lync platform allows users to travel with their phone number and stay in contact with their peers. For users that need a traditional land line, there are physical phone options like the Polycom VVX500 as well as soft phones which require as little as a headset or earphones with a microphone to place calls via the Lync client.
A: Hosted Lync Standard allows PC-to-PC connectivity for such activities as instant messaging. Enterprise Plus enables more services, including VoIP and conferences.
A: Hosted Lync will allow you to host virtual conferences with people internal and external to your company for collaboration.

Rave Reviews

While there are numerous hosting providers to choose from, we found that only onTop Technology Corp had “above and beyond” personalized service backed by the integrity of a Tier III certified data center. By partnering with onTop, we were able to greatly enhance our IT infrastructure.

Here at BidTracer we have developed a cloud based software for construction. Many of the challenges these days of having the expertise on staff at our company has been answered by onTop’s knowledgeable staff. They have set up our phone system integrated with Microsoft Lync and made it a seamless switch over. They are there throughout the whole process and you can tell they take pride in their work.

We grow by acquiring new stations. Each time, I have to integrate the station into the corporate network, which takes three to four days. onTop is working on a ‘station-in-a-box’ idea that will enable a new station to literally plug right in. onTop is helping us figure out how to better scale.
SPARROW relies on onTop for help managing infrastructure costs. That’s strategic. If you can’t manage your infrastructure cost it affects overall profitability.

Whereas the old IT vendor delivered an ‘out-of-the-box’ solution – that is, more capacity – onTop helped us figure out how to put our IT capacity to best use. They helped us align our IT infrastructure to our business objectives. That has been a critical element in our successful growth.

If we can’t be scalable and highly available then we lose customers. Our strategy is of course to keep them. onTop helps us do that.
Matanda Doss, SPARROW
Before onTop, we were with a provider that didn’t really care about how we used – or even if we used – the capacity they had sold us. To increase our compute capacity we had to buy CPU, RAM, etc. in ‘buckets’ whether we needed it or not. In order to get what we needed of one thing, we ended up overbuying in other areas. That’s good for the seller, not so much for us.

Your infrastructure is the foundation for your operations success. By leveraging a scalable solution you can focus almost exclusively on the operation of your company and the growth model you have. The hardware limitations in a self-hosted environment are removed with a partner such as onTop.

Business growth today is driven as much if not more by growing profit margins than by growing revenue. IT plays an instrumental role in that growth.
